The Alliance for International Youth Development (AIYD) (2013). Guiding Principles for International Youth Development

This collaborative effort of AIYD members highlights effective practices for positive youth development across sectors.  The guiding principles are organized into the following sections: Cross‐Cutting Principles (e.g. gender, conflict, disability), Youth Engagement, Youth & Learning, Youth & Economic Opportunity,  Youth & Health. Each section includes a definition, several guiding principles, illustrative indicators for measuring progress, and a list of recommended resources. Several sections also highlight emerging areas of practice or research in youth development (e.g. adolescent brain development), or that provide a formal definition (e.g. gender‐based violence).
