Violent Extremism has become a sine qua non in the east African state of Kenya, Uganda, and Somalia. The immediate effects have been catastrophic and devastating, and the long term effects have created a platform for policy and legal regimes, as well as inviting the participation of a new breed of programs run by civil society, to counteract the same. In light of the foregoing, there is need to appreciate the extent of the initiatives being implemented by the various civil society organisations (CSOs) around east Africa, with special focus on Somalia, Kenya, and Uganda, in order to benchmark the best practices, and recommend strategies for countering violent extremism.
