Summary

The provision of information and learning experiences to equip and empower young people to participate in democratic processes. Civic education can include development of civic knowledge (e.g. legal rights, governing structures), civic skills (soft skills such as communication, critical thinking, empathy), and civic mindset (valuing community welfare, active citizenship). The goal of civic education is to promote informed, long-term, and sustained citizen participation in decision-making processes. Civic education can be integrated into schools or be extracurricular or community-based.
