Summary

A learning program in which young people have the opportunity to be exposed to - or immersed in - an aspect of life with other young people in the same community but from different backgrounds (geographic, socioeconomic, ethnic, linguistic, religious, etc.). These exchanges may be school-based or extracurricular, and can range in focus but typically include some mix of language, culture, and history. Exchanges can be structured to bring two or more groups together with a common learning objective (for example, English language classes, or visits to historic monuments), or can use a more "traditional" approach of sending an individual or group to another location for learning (such as another school).
