A jigger scourge has swept through Mayuge district and the pests are multiplying geometrically such that in every home .The Inklusive Press learned that at least three school going children per household from fifty homes visited in Mayuge are not in school due to the jigger diseases. An approximately of 161 primary schools and 50,000 children in Mayuge district are already infested with jiggers.
Global Pathways to success Uganda, a local initiative led by young change maker -Cynthia Abito is using Positive Youth Development (PYD) approach to promote the physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing of the most vulnerable women, children and people living with disabilities in Eastern Uganda.
Through Positive youth development PYD) approach, GPSU is giving hope to children who are the most affected, and transforming learning systems. The initiative has taken the fight against jigger diseases to schools and is mobilizing resources to build a community centred health center since there is none in Mayuge district, Eastern Uganda.
