These young men are listening to a speaker in Kandahar-Maiwand District, Afghanistan tell them about creating viable opportunities to stay in the country and create a stable, peaceful, and successful future. This EU-funded Afghanistan Migration Information Project was a fast-paced, nine-month awareness raising campaign aimed at providing credible and usable information to potential migrants--particularly to young men--in all parts of the country. The project was designed to reach a maximum number of people, specifically those considering migrating, over a short period of time, using mass media, local community engagement, and interactive technology. All materials were produced in both Dari and Pashto languages. The impact of the project was broad, especially considering the short time span: 24 radio station partners in 24 provinces ran life weekly call-in shows. 48 Listening, Discussion, and Action Groups held 960 meetings. 170 live mobile theater performances were held in 17 provinces, followed by audience Q&A sessions. 24/7 hotline to answer audience questions and direct participants to additional resources was set up. 3 sports events were held, each reaching approximately 7,000 people with the goal of engaging youth in the issue of migration, resilience, and promoting ways to rebuild Afghanistan.
