Since 2015, INEE has been working to further clarify the role and importance of psychosocial support (PSS) and social and emotional learning (SEL) for the education in emergencies (EiE) sector. INEE published the Background Paper on PSS-SEL for Children and Youth in Emergency Settings in 2016 and subsequently the Guidance Note on Psychosocial Support in 2018. Today, as PSS and SEL rises to the top of many actors’ agendas, INEE is proud to launch the new PSS and SEL Training Module to further address the capacity gap for professionals operating in emergency contexts.
This module is for those looking to provide an introductory understanding of PSS and SEL concepts and programming as part of an education response in emergency contexts. This includes governments, non-government organisations, international agencies, and donors.
The module outlines 3 hours (180 minutes) of training activities and materials related to the introduction of PSS and SEL concepts and programming in emergency contexts. It includes supplementary activities to further the understanding of PSS and SEL concepts, for an extended duration of 5 hours (270 minutes). The Facilitator Guide provides facilitator and participant materials, facilitator notes (including main ideas and activity instructions), opportunities for contextualization, and a suggested script for the accompanying presentation.
The production of the training module was led by the INEE PSS-SEL Collaborative. It underwent an extensive review process, which included several rounds of feedback from Collaborative members and a piloting phase with lessons learned captured herein.
