Positive Youth Development in Real Life: Having the Right Tools for the Job

  •  Are you looking to meet the needs of youth in your country or region?
  •  Are you seeking tools to better measure current or upcoming programs that support youth?
  •  Are you looking for guidance on youth-specific indicators to include in solicitations or proposals for youth-related programming?

This webinar addresses questions on how to use or apply PYD indicators in the project life cycle.

How do you measure Positive Youth Development?

Positive Youth Development (PYD) is a guiding principle of USAID’s Youth in Development Policy. Both a philosophy and an approach, it emphasizes the importance of young people having the knowledge and skills they need, the opportunity to harness those skills, and a supportive environment in order to thrive as adults.  YouthPower has developed illustrative PYD indicators and an associated toolkit to help funders, implementers and researchers measure PYD in programs. This webinar will describe the framework for measuring PYD, share illustrative indicators, and discuss the application and adaptation of indicators for projects. These tools will support the successful design, monitoring and evaluation of PYD programs.

This one-hour webinar hosted by USAID YouthPower Learning will answer these questions:

  1. What does PYD look like in programs for youth in low- and middle-income countries?
  2. What are PYD indicators and associated tools for measuring PYD outcomes?
  3. How do you apply PYD indicators in key program phases, particularly in program design and for learning?
  4. What are important considerations when adapting indicators to local contexts?
  5. How do you measure PYD to improve program performance and contribute to the evidence of PYD influences on multi-sector outcomes?

Dr. Martie Skinner from the Social Development Research Group at the University of Washington and partner on the YouthPower Learning team will answer these questions and provide some examples of PYD indicators using the PYD Measurement Toolkit soon to be published on www.YouthPower.org
