Young Active Citizens is a pilot project of The Youth Leadership Institute established to increase youth participation on nonprofit boards of directors, nonprofit advisory boards, public commissions, and other community governing bodies in The San Francisco Bay Area. This curriculum is designed as a "grab bag" of materials for organizations and public entities considering youth inclusion in public Policy and civic engagement. In Chapter One, The authors address The importance and benefits of youth- adult partnerships from an adult's perspective, as well as how to go about creating meaningful ones. In Chapter Two, they provide The same information, but from The perspective of youth. In Chapter Three, The authors cover activities for intergenerational team building, diversity and multiculturalism exercises, group skill building exercises, and reflection/celebration exercises. Chapter Four contains The appendices, consisting of sample materials to adapt and use, such as training agendas, training evaluations, youth outreach and application materials, reference research on different theoretical approaches to youth development, and a list of additional resources. Throughout The curriculum, there are exercises to do with groups of adults, youth, or a combination of both. (Professional trainings covering The material in this volume are available from Youth Leadership Institute.)
