Please find below the session notes from the session on Day 2 (Wednesday, November 10, 2021) of the USAID YouthPower2 Symposium about Analyzing Costs in PYD Programs.

Session Details

Implementers and key education stakeholders understand how to apply USAID’s cost reporting and analysis guidance to cross-sectoral, positive youth development (PYD) programs. The session will begin with a short overview of the USAID cost reporting guidance. The outline will explain the activity-based cost reporting approach and review the cost categories with participants. The presenter will then lead participants through two activities to help them practice applying the cost reporting guidance. The first activity will use a PYD project case study to help participants think about the project’s goals and map specific activities to reporting categories. During the discussion period, participants will be asked to provide examples from other PYD or youth programs and share those with the group. The second activity will ask participants to consider cross-sectoral programs with non-education/workforce components (e.g., health, agriculture). Participants will give examples of activities from non-education parts of PYD programs and discuss how the activities could be categorized using the existing cost reporting categories. The session will end with a discussion of questions or concerns among participants.
